Lawn & Embroidered Suit Care Guide

How do I care for Pakistani lawn and embroidered suits?

Pakistani lawn is a fine, breathable cotton — with the right care your embroidered suits stay crisp and colourful for years. The rules are simple: wash cold, wash inside out, never wring embroidery, and always dry in shade. Machine washing on a gentle cycle is safe for printed lawn; hand washing is best for heavily embroidered pieces.

Step-by-step: washing a lawn suit

  1. Sort first. Wash lawn separately from rough fabrics (denim, towels) and separate lights from darks — deep colours can bleed slightly in the first two washes.
  2. Turn inside out. This protects embroidery threads and prints from friction.
  3. Cold water only. 30°C or colder. Hot water shrinks lawn cotton and dulls embroidery colours.
  4. Gentle detergent. Mild liquid detergent, no bleach, no optical brighteners on embroidered areas.
  5. Hand wash or gentle cycle. Hand wash embroidered pieces for 3–5 minutes; machine wash printed lawn on the delicate cycle in a mesh bag.
  6. Never wring. Squeeze water out gently or roll the garment in a clean towel and press.

Step-by-step: drying and ironing

  1. Dry in shade, always. Direct sunlight fades lawn dyes and yellows embroidery threads. Hang or lay flat in a breezy, shaded spot.
  2. Iron inside out, medium heat. For embroidered sections, iron on the reverse side with a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric.
  3. Steam, don’t crush. A garment steamer is even safer than an iron for heavily embroidered kameez.

Storing lawn suits between seasons

  • Wash before storing — body oils attract pests and set stains permanently.
  • Wrap in muslin or cotton bags, never plastic (plastic traps moisture and yellows fabric).
  • Store dupattas rolled around acid-free tissue to keep embroidery raised and crease-free.
  • Add cedar blocks or neem leaves as a natural moth deterrent; avoid naphthalene balls touching the fabric.
  • Refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent fold-line cracking on prints.

Frequently asked questions

Does lawn shrink after washing?

Quality lawn shrinks 2–4% after the first cold wash — this margin is already accounted for in our size chart. Hot water is what causes real shrinkage, so keep it cold.

Can I machine wash embroidered suits?

Only lightly embroidered ones, inside out, in a mesh laundry bag on delicate. Heavily embroidered pieces should be hand washed to protect the thread work.

Why is my lawn suit bleeding colour?

Deep dyes (maroon, navy, emerald) commonly release colour in the first two washes. Wash separately in cold water with a handful of salt the first time; bleeding stops after the second wash. If bleeding continues past two washes, contact us.

How do I remove stains from lawn?

Blot immediately, soak in cold water with mild detergent for 15 minutes, and dab — never rub embroidered areas. Avoid stain-removal pens on printed fabric; they bleach the print.
